HISTORY

Huia Feather – Legacy Range

A Piece of New Zealand Heritage

The Huia Feather draws inspiration from the extinct Huia bird of Aotearoa, last seen in 1907. In Māori culture, Huia feathers were highly prized and worn as a symbol of mana, status, and respect, making them one of the most significant natural taonga of their time.

This contemporary ceramic interpretation honours that legacy through form and material, transforming a historic symbol into a modern decorative object. Originally created as part of the Forest and Fauna series, the design has remained a standout within New Zealand’s studio ceramics movement. Learn more about the heritage.

Continuing the Crown Lynn Legacy

Today, the Huia Feather is produced by Crown Lynn Kiwi as part of the ongoing Legacy Range, continuing decades of New Zealand ceramic design history. It sits alongside other iconic forms, preserving and reinterpreting shapes that have been loved in Kiwi homes for generations.
